Alla' hafis

Finished the Pakistan. Happy to be gone, same old same old vis-a-vis the mission.

Sad to leave the staff, despite the endless games and tricks, the staff are genuinely nice people interested in getting ahead. This is always the way. The news has given an image of crazy, dangerous, extremist Pakistan yet this is not the case. Too bad.

This ends a long series of work or me, starting in October with SAVE UK in Niger and then Pakistan with Oxfam GB with no break in between. Long hot days working emergency conditions without a day off or an evening chilled. It is a good time for a break.

So the next adventure is Inuvik to Ushuaia. Just like these folks: http://thejoyhunt.com/thejoyhunt.com/Home.html

in THIS! the christened Bip Bip. It is a Mitsibushi Delica L400, long wheel base 7 passenger people mover with a V6 gas engine. It is loaded with features, not the least is the 4WD system. We are ready to bust new trails if needed.

We expect its arrival from Japan to Vancouver in the first week of July. If all goes well we can pick it up in Vancouver by mid-July following the maintenance and upgrading to meet Canadian specs for registration and have a 'shake-down' cruise from Vancouver to Prudhoe Bay Alaska or Inuvik, Yukon back to Fredericton, meeting up with friends along the way. In Fredericton we will do some minor mods and construction in the interior to make a bed and storage before we hit the highway – re-crossing the continental US... Louisiana is an interest but so is Route 66 to the west-coast and then down to Baja and then parts south. There are highlights I would like to visit: Burning Man in the desert, biking in the Moab would be cool, Las Vegas in a jacked up 4WD might be interesting....

I am struggling hard to keep an open itinerary and not overload it with times and dates. Thus our plan is 6 months - 1 year... still it would be good to learn a bit of Spanish in Guatemala and Argentina, while learning a bit of surfing in the south of Mex. STEAK in Argentina! This will be a good time for me to re-take up the guitar...

Fanny and I have two seats available to any and all who wish to travel a leg with us. No offers refused.
