another day...

Dear all,

yesterday we received a cargo from Kh, but unfortunately the generator was not among the received items.
Guys do you have more information about the expected delivery date?
Cheers

Thanks,
It will be good to get a new and reliable generator soon. I have info that suggests the genset will be in EF tomorrow, thanks to the team in KH.

Still, let us not let our security and safety relax with the arrival of the new generator. We should not diminish the importance or wave our requirement for a reliable back-up generator in the absence of any other reliable and fully-functioning back-up system in place.

The old generator will have to be sent to EF for repairs. We have no such facilities or supplies for parts. Do not forget where we are situated.

Hi Chris,
For the old/main generator, are those works able to be done in ST?

For the TFC one, sorry for the state. The log department told me a service was done (although it is and old one and no service will make it new)

As I said in previous mail, the final solution is to get the new one who has been already bought and is in Kh. Hopefully it will arrive soon.

Cheers

Subject: Generator
Hello,
I have received the generator, thank you.

It is functioning and we now have power on the base. As suspected, since we are receiving 220V in the office now it is not a wiring or grounding problem but that the old generator is failing.

Possibly, with a good cleaning of both the engine (manifold issues, starting issues, pull start fixed) and the generator part (clean, lubricate, replace electric brushes) that the generator will function well again.

I must point out one thing. This TFC generator is also in bad repair. You mentioned that it was receiving a service; please note that the oil has not been changed and is dangerously low in the reservoir. Parts of the generator are held together by clear tape. The throttle lever is disconnected and required that I jury-rig a device to control the engine speed. The power coming from this generator is not smooth but fluctuating and that concerns me as it may damage our voltage regulators and other equipment.

Furthermore, it is a petrol generator rather than diesel and we now only have 16 l of petrol on hand. Petrol is not available on the ST market in sufficient quantities to be useful. I will have to submit an IOF for petrol – transport and storage costs continue to mount as we continually ship generators and supplies to and from ST.

This is a bit disappointing to me. To replace garbage with garbage is a recipe for disaster. We will use this generator while we have it but we have no guarantee that it will last our needs and secure our safety or permit our work here.

I have successfully repaired our 12V battery charger and after a few charging sessions our HF radios should be up and running during periods the generator is not running.

Best,
Chris
