Grumpy Gus

18 Oct. 06
Yesterday was a grumpy day. I feel tonnes better after a long sleep. As I sat on the step this morning with my coffee and novel, I noticed that the air temperature on my bare torso was a bit chilly. While the days remain cooking-hot, the mornings are now quite fresh and it is clear that the rains are coming. The air is hazy with dust, and the clouds are mostly covering the blue. The rains will be a mixed blessing.

My logistician tells me he believes all our construction will be finished by the end of next week. This is excellent news and we can ease the pressure and get to cruising speed for all the small niggling stuff – pieces of furniture, mini-constructions and fine tuning of proposed upgrades. As always, there is an ‘Africa time’ factor at work here. On verra.

Today I will meet with our four nurses who have resigned from our CNT to figure out a way to protect against future actions like this. And I will meet the village water association. Also I need to confirm that we have recovered our bicycles from the military – they stopped some of our folks the other day and are now joyriding around. I will visit our Concern companions to verify Mr Corbeau’s historic daily rate.

Meanwhile the mango trees are positively bursting with fruit. Some are turning slightly red indicating that it will not be long. Makes me remember the green mango salad in Thailand….

Peace and Love
