A little about shoulders

So I peddle and peddle and ponder and peddle. Mostly I ponder about the state of the path I tread. In BC there were few paths worth treading and I was in constant fear regarding the security and longevity of my skinny little tires.

The shoulders of the BC highways, you see, when there were such things are filled with plenty of flotsam. Aside from the incredible amount of sand and gravel (always a dangerous thing on a bike) there are, for example: broken tie-straps from large trucks (a source of worry), broken bits of bungee chords, hooks, nails, screws, nuts, bolts, tire bits, hubcaps, wood, twigs, trees, dead baby bears and get this - broken wheel studs! Of course, what kept me always interested and on the lookout was the amazing diversity of piss-filled bottles. What is up with that?

Alberta, on the other hand, is a relative heaven with wide and spacious shoulders that are clean and free of debris. Can't find a piss bottle anywhere, tho there are a few tire bits to avoid. And while the road in Alberta disappears into the distance, it is flat and joyful (so long as the ass is not paining!).
