French Cafe, Kunming
I am calling from the French Cafe in Kunming, Yunan, China. Day three in China.
How cool is that?
Some brief notes on China:
Tall beautiful people.
Clean streets
Quiet
Orderly and functional
Big, everything is big. Roads are big (lacking much traffic), buildings are big. Even the scenery is big (to be more precise, expansive) tho that does not mean that every square centimeter is not occupied with some activity.
GREAT FOOD
very comfortable sleeper trains.
You can see that I am having a mini culture-shock crisis here. Everything is so different from the Philippines I am having a struggle to cope.
Will be trying to make arrangements to get into Tibet tomorrow. If all else fails maybe an illegal hitchike over the Yunan highway (Dequin, Yunan to Lhasa) may be in order. The weather is good and warm even at the 2000 m elevation here in Kunming. Hopefully it will stay warm(er) over in Tibet too.
All is well and I am safe. With the Mandarin phrase book I will perservere and survive (to be sure I was a bit timid about arriving in China as this represents maybe the greatest travel challenge to date). All is good.
More later.
